We tend to do holidays and birthdays in clumps, have you noticed?
Thanksgiving, Leah's birthday, Christmas, New Years', Samuel's Birthday, our anniversary...all in the same 8 weeks---wow. Then of course, Chris and I have birthdays just a week and a half apart in the summer. Maybe we should use better planning the next time we have a baby (well, I guess Samuel wasn't planned...) I am so happy to have this little guy, surprise or not. Can you believe he is already a year old?
Well, here are some pics from Samuel's first birthday. Chris was out of town, so it was just Leah and I. She was very happy to sing happy birthday to Samuel, and of course, she wanted to share it with him, so I let her blow out a candle, too. Why not? Oh, and please disregard my leprous-appearing skin in the video--I had just finished staining the chairs.
Samuel celebrated his first birthday with Leah and mommy, a diaper rash, a couple naps, and a brownie. He also successfully learned the sign for cheese.
“When God wants a great work done in the world or a great wrong righted, he goes about it in a very unusual way. He doesn’t stir up his earthquakes or send forth his thunderbolts. Instead, he has a helpless baby born, perhaps in a simple home and of some obscure mother. And then God puts the idea into the mother’s heart, and she puts it into the baby’s mind. And then God waits. The greatest forces in the world are not the earthquakes and the thunderbolts. The greatest forces in the world are babies.” ~ET Sullivan
