Leah has started saying select words! While she can sign over 100 words, she is starting to say some aloud. Sometimes she reverts to the sign for a word she knows, even though she could probably say the word outloud (the word "Gramma" for example, she won't say outloud, but she will sign). If you catch her at just the right moment, you can get her to repeat words for you, like in this video. Usually when the camera comes out, all attempts at being candid are lost because she starts posing, but fortunately, this one Sunday morning she kept talking!
Other words that Leah favors are:
Bink (binky)
B'loon (balloon, including helium and hot air balloons!)
Mine
Book*
Broccoli (which sounds a lot like "Becky")
No* (Deserves a second mention because it is her most favorite word)
Boat
Ear (which sounds a lot like "Leah" minus the "L", or E-ah)
Keys
Teeth (this is how she asks for her toothbrush)
Baby*
Moon*
Ball*
...I'm sure I'll think of more and she'll learn more every day!
The words I starred are words for which Leah also knows the sign, and usually for those words she says it and signs it both. I think it is interesting to note that the words she chooses to say outloud are more likely words that she did not ever sign. Interesting?
“When God wants a great work done in the world or a great wrong righted, he goes about it in a very unusual way. He doesn’t stir up his earthquakes or send forth his thunderbolts. Instead, he has a helpless baby born, perhaps in a simple home and of some obscure mother. And then God puts the idea into the mother’s heart, and she puts it into the baby’s mind. And then God waits. The greatest forces in the world are not the earthquakes and the thunderbolts. The greatest forces in the world are babies.” ~ET Sullivan
